Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 7, 2026

The Commonplace (“we”, “the site”) is a personal essay site written and run by Glenn Junsay Pansensoy in the Philippines. This policy explains what information is collected when you visit, and why. Questions can be sent to YOUR-EMAIL@example.com.

1. What we do not collect

Visitors do not need an account, and the site has no sign-up, comment form or newsletter. We do not ask for your name, email address or any other personal details to read the essays.

2. Information collected automatically

The site is hosted on Cloudflare. Like most web hosts, Cloudflare processes technical data such as your IP address, browser type, device type, pages requested and the time of the request, to deliver the site, keep it secure and prevent abuse. We do not use this data to identify you personally. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.

Searching and filtering essays happens inside your browser. Your search words are not sent to us.

3. Advertising (Google AdSense)

This site shows ads served by Google AdSense, which helps pay for the site. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this and other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.

  • You can opt out of personalized advertising at Google Ads Settings.
  • You can also opt out of some third-party vendors’ personalized advertising at aboutads.info.
  • To learn how Google uses data from sites that use its services, visit policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, you will be asked for your consent to cookies for advertising through a consent message. You can change your choice at any time using the privacy settings link where it is offered, or by clearing your browser’s cookies.

4. Embedded and third-party content

Some essays embed YouTube videos (using YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode). Playing a video may set cookies from YouTube and Google. The “Share” buttons are ordinary links to Facebook, X, LinkedIn, WhatsApp, Telegram, Reddit and email; nothing is sent to those services unless you click one. The “Listen” button uses your browser’s built-in text-to-speech and does not send the text anywhere.

Links to other websites are provided for your convenience. We are not responsible for their privacy practices.

5. Children

The site is a general-audience publication and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

6. Your rights

Under the Philippine Data Privacy Act of 2012 (Republic Act No. 10173), and under laws such as the GDPR where they apply to you, you may ask to access, correct or delete personal data we hold about you, and object to its processing. Because we collect almost none, there is usually little to share, but you are welcome to ask by email. You may also contact the National Privacy Commission of the Philippines.

7. Security and retention

Essays are stored with Cloudflare. Hosting logs are kept by Cloudflare under its own retention rules. No visitor personal data is stored by us.

8. Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top will be updated.
