Cookie Policy

Last updated: October 7, 2026

Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your device. This page explains how they are used on The Commonplace.

Cookies we set

The Commonplace does not set its own tracking or analytics cookies for visitors, and it has no visitor accounts or logins.

Advertising cookies (Google)

Google AdSense and its partners may set cookies to show and measure ads, limit how often you see the same ad, and, where you allow it, personalize ads. Cloudflare may also set strictly necessary cookies to protect the site against abuse.

Embedded video

If you play an embedded YouTube video, YouTube and Google may set cookies on your device. The site uses YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode, which sets them only when you play a video.

Your choices

  • In the EEA, UK and Switzerland, use the consent message to accept, reject or manage advertising cookies.
  • Turn off personalized ads at adssettings.google.com.
  • Block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The essays remain readable without cookies, though you may see less relevant ads.
  • See aboutcookies.org for how to manage cookies in common browsers.
