About The Commonplace

Last updated: October 7, 2026

The Commonplace is a personal commonplace book made public: a running record of essays on history, philosophy, economy, programming, culture, food, local and global politics, weather, farming, artificial intelligence and music videos.

Who writes it

The site is written, edited and maintained by Glenn Junsay Pansensoy, an independent writer, educator and Python developer in the Philippines. There is no editorial team, no sponsor and no algorithm choosing the topics. Each essay is published because it seemed worth thinking about.

What to expect

  • Original writing, in plain language, for the general reader.
  • Competing viewpoints presented fairly, with uncertainty named where it exists.
  • Corrections when mistakes are found. Please write in if you spot one.

How the site is paid for

The Commonplace is free to read. It shows advertising through Google AdSense to help cover hosting and writing time. Ads never decide what is published. See the Privacy Policy for how advertising works.
