Accessibility

Last updated: October 7, 2026

We want The Commonplace to be readable by as many people as possible, including people who use assistive technology.

What we do

  • Clear headings and a consistent page layout.
  • Text that can be resized with your browser and a layout that adapts to phones, tablets and desktops.
  • Buttons and links that work with a keyboard.
  • A “Listen” button on each essay that reads it aloud using your device’s text-to-speech.
  • Readable colour contrast for body text.

Known limitations

Some older essays may have images without descriptive text, and embedded videos come from YouTube and follow its accessibility features. We are working to improve these.

Tell us about a problem
